Education

Education is critically important in a child’s development. For children around the world, getting an education is a gateway to a better life and future. In a school setting, children are also provided safety, psychosocial protection, and a sense of normalcy by engaging in recreational activities. However, the opportunity to get an education is not available to all.

In Lebanon children with disabilities are often denied an education. The issue of denying children with disabilities an education has caught the attention of the international community. The right to an education is universal as international organizations such as Human Rights Watch (HRW), United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and the World Health Organization (WHO), work to protect this human right.

Parents of children with disabilities remaining vocal about the discrimination their children experience is a positive step forward. International exposure to Lebanon’s public education system also raises awareness and strives to protect the right to education by government adhering to laws already in place.
